Monday 17 August - Day 21
Newton, IA to Freemont, OH: 550 miles
We must apologize up front...we did not take any pictures today. Given the combination of bad weather, lots of miles and construction...the cameras didn't leave our tank bags.
Our morning routine was shaken up by an early thunderstorm in Iowa. We didn't hit the road until a little after 7:00am. Once we finally did hit the road, we rode about 50 miles in the rain. After we got out of that nasty stuff the sun and humidity started to hit us.
We rode through Iowa and crossed the Mississippi River at Davenport. The river there was much wider than it was at Lake Itasca in Minnesota. We then crossed Illinois and Indiana. We did hit some heavy traffic around Chicago and Gary, Indiana.
We ran into a lot of construction and one accident today. Just so everyone knows...the people in the mid-west (like the people on the east coast) don't know how to merge in traffic! We also had a run in with a very uncooperating toll booth on the Indiana turnpike. Ask us in person for that story!
We eventually made it to our destination of Freemont, Ohio around 7:00pm this evening. We are planning an early morning with an estimated time of arrival at Doug's house around lunch time tomorrow.
Tomorrow night we will post our last blog entry...be sure to check it out.

when we rode through Iowa, we had to stop every 15 minutes and pour water over ourselves. TOO HOT!! Take care and thanks for the blog. Enjoyed hearing and seeing some of what we have already seen and some of what we now really want to go see!!
