Astoria, OR to Crescent City, CA: 375 miles
Well we finally had a full day of sun. That was the first one in a long time. We woke up this morning and got on the Pacific Coast Highway (Rte 101) and headed south. The PCH follows the Oregon coast all the way into California. Most of the Oregon coast is very scenic. At points you are at sea level others you are at 1,000 feet above the ocean. The coast was a combination of rocky and sandy stretches. The coast was also covered with extremely tall Douglas-Firs.
Here are some pictures of the Oregon Coast along the PCH:
Here is a lighthouse that we saw:
At one pull off we were taking pictures of the ocean and saw a bunch of sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks:
After riding 355 miles of the Oregon coast we finally made it to California:
From the state border to Crescent City was only a distance of 20 miles. We got to ride through some young redwoods. The young growth redwoods' trunks were quite skinny but they were really tall. Tomorrow we will be riding through old growth redwoods...should be a huge difference.
After dinner this evening we headed down to the marina here in Crescent City. We were looking around and Gumby went off and got into a little trouble:
Tell you what, you take your eyes off of Gumby for one minute and he is up to his old hijinks!
Tomorrow the weather is supposed to be sunny and hot. We will be headed south through the Redwoods National Park and then cut EAST (for the first time this trip) to make our destination of Redding, CA. That's right, tomorrow we start riding towards home.
Whoa, Gumby...he must be a smooth talker to have this girl's clothes off so soon!
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog, even after Donna and I got home, dried ourselves off and had our cup of tea!
ReplyDeleteKeep on bloggin' it's great to see/read what you are doing!

I was glad to see that you provided Gumby with such an uplifting experience. I trust that the whole of the trip has been such for both of you. You were "cleansed" early on in the trip, dried out in CA and will head home with a tail wind. Continue to live life large by taking in the sights that this country has to offer.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels,
Phil W.
