Cody, WY to Sundance, WY: 314 miles
Left Cody this morning and headed east on route 14. The road wound 40 miles through ranch country and then it started to snake through an awesome canyon. When we got to the other end of the canyon the road climbed to give us this view of the canyon:
After that awesome canyon we climbed our way through the Bighorn Mountains. On the trek we had a moose cow and her calf cross the road in front of us. When we came down out of the mountains this eerie cloud wall was ahead of us. Luckily it didn't produce any precipitation.
After the Bighorn mountains we headed east to Gillette. We stopped at a Kawasaki dealership there and changed our oil. It was a record time oil stop and we were back on the road headed east. Our next goal was Devil's Tower National Monument. Devil's Tower was an unbelievable experience. It stands out of the prairie like a colossal altar reaching towards God. We had the opportunity to ride up to it and hike around the tower.
This is a pic of Devil's Tower from about 10 miles away:
Gumby enjoyed our stop. He really wanted to climb the tower, but we told him we didn't have enough time.
After Devil's Tower we headed east again and made our way to Sundance, WY. While in Sundance we had the opportunity to sit down with the Sundance Kid. It was here in Sundance where he got his nickname after spending time in their jail for stealing a horse. After getting out, he joined up with Butch Cassidy.
Tomorrow will be a big sightseeing day. We will be heading east to the Black Hills to see the Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands and the famous Wall Drug Store.
All of this continues to hold our interest. I (D) especially liked the photo of the two of you with the Tetons as a backdrop. Nice. Any Zen reflections yet on what you've learned thus far? Keep the photos coming and continue to be safe.
